Handle Policy

How @handles in Chakloon are chosen, which ones are not allowed, how name and trademark disputes are resolved and what happens to a handle when an account is deleted.

Version 1.0In force from October 16, 2026Updated: October 16, 2026All versions

This policy applies to handles managed by Chakloon NIC at nic.chakloon.com, a service of Haydamax OÜ, Estonia. It supplements the general Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy and does not replace them.

One handle for all services

A handle is your public name in the form @name. Chakloon has one namespace of handles: a handle belongs to one Chakloon Passport account and is the same in every Chakloon service. A handle registered by one account cannot be used by another account in any service.

Your handle is public. Other people see it next to your posts, messages, profile pages and links.

Format

A handle must:

  • be 7 to 30 characters long;
  • contain only Latin letters a–z, digits 0–9, the dot, the underscore and the hyphen;
  • contain no spaces, letters of other alphabets or other symbols.

First come, first served

A free handle is given to the first account that registers it, provided it complies with this policy. Registration does not make the handle your property. You receive the right to use it under these rules for as long as your account exists and complies with the Terms of Service.

You may not sell, rent, auction or otherwise trade a handle, offer it for money or hand it over to another account. We do not recognise any sale or transfer of a handle agreed between users, and a handle offered or passed on in this way may be reclaimed.

Reserved and prohibited handles

The following handles cannot be registered:

  • offensive handles: insults, obscenities, hate against groups of people, glorification of violence or crime;
  • misleading handles that suggest an official role in Chakloon, such as administrator, support, moderator or security, or imitate system addresses;
  • handles that impersonate a real person, organisation or brand you do not represent;
  • names of public authorities, state bodies and international organisations, unless the body itself registers them or a person authorised by it does;
  • names of our services and of our company, such as Chakloon, Chacki, Chak, Zori, Kassero and Haydamax, and handles confusingly similar to them;
  • handles that infringe a trademark or another person's rights.

We also keep some handles reserved for technical reasons. We may refuse a handle without disclosing the full list of reserved words.

Trademarks and names

If you own a trademark or have a right to a name, such as your own name or the name of your company, and a handle of someone else infringes that right or misleads people, you can claim it. Send to legal@chakloon.com:

  1. the handle concerned;
  2. your name and contact details and, if you act on behalf of someone else, proof of your authority;
  3. proof of your right, such as the registration number of the trademark and the office that registered it, an extract from the commercial register or other evidence of the name;
  4. an explanation of why the handle infringes your right or misleads people, with examples of how it is used;
  5. a statement that the information in the claim is accurate and given in good faith.

We inform the holder of the handle and give them an opportunity to respond, except in cases of obvious impersonation or other urgency. Then a person on our side decides. A trademark does not by itself give a right to a handle that is used in good faith for another purpose, for example a common word or a person's own name.

In deciding, we weigh in particular whether the holder has their own right or legitimate interest in the handle, such as their own name, a common word, criticism or a clearly marked parody; whether the handle was registered or is used in bad faith, for example to sell it to the right holder, to block them, to divert their audience or customers, to mislead people about who is behind the account, or as part of a pattern of such registrations; and how the handle is actually used.

When we may reclaim a handle

We may take a handle away from an account if:

  • it impersonates a person or an organisation;
  • it infringes a trademark or another right, after a well-founded claim;
  • it breaks the format or falls under the prohibited handles above;
  • it is held unused only to be sold, or is offered for sale or exchange;
  • the account is closed for a breach of the Terms of Service.

A reclaimed handle may be kept reserved or, after a well-founded claim, made available to the holder of the right. Before we reclaim a handle we tell the account owner, except in cases of obvious impersonation, fraud or other urgency. The account owner receives a statement of reasons under Article 17 of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 (DSA): what we decided and from when, the facts and circumstances, whether automated means were used, the rule of this policy or the law we rely on, and how to appeal.

When an account is deleted

When you delete your account or it is closed, your handle stops pointing to you. It is not released at once: it stays blocked for a waiting period stated in the service, so that no one can take it immediately and pose as you. After that period anyone may register it.

Before you delete your account, keep in mind that old links and mentions with your handle may later lead to another person.

Appeals

A refusal or a reclamation of a handle is a moderation decision. You can appeal it within six months by replying to the decision or by writing to legal@chakloon.com. The appeal is reviewed by a different person than the one who took the first decision, and we answer within 14 days. The person who made a trademark or name claim can appeal our decision on it in the same way. You may also go to court. The procedure is described in Content moderation and appeals.
