How to generate legal documents for your own website with Chakloon Legal and add a cookie consent widget, and why this is not legal advice.

What it is

Chakloon Legal at legal.chakloon.com is a tool for owners of websites. It does two things:

  • Generates legal documents for your own site from your answers about your site and business.
  • Gives you a cookie consent widget that asks your visitors for consent and keeps a record of their choices.

Chakloon Legal is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. The legal texts of Chakloon itself are here on info.chakloon.com, not in this tool.

Get started

  1. Open legal.chakloon.com and sign in with your Chakloon Passport.
  2. Add your site.
  3. Answer the questions about your site: who runs it, what it does, which data it collects and which services it uses.

Generate your documents

  1. Choose the document you need.
  2. Check the answers it is built from and complete what is missing.
  3. Generate the document and read it in full.
  4. Publish it on your site.

When something on your site changes, for example a new form, a new payment provider or a new analytics tool, update your answers and generate the document again.

  1. In the settings of your site, open the widget.
  2. Copy the line of code it shows you.
  3. Insert it into the pages of your site, ideally in the head of every page.
  4. Check on your site that the banner appears and that your choices are respected.

In the cabinet you see the record of consents given on your site.

Your responsibility

The documents are templates filled in with your answers. You are responsible for your answers being true and complete, for checking the result and for complying with the law that applies to your site. If your business involves health data, children, payments or other sensitive matters, have the documents checked by a lawyer. The rules of the service are in the Chakloon Legal Terms, together with the general Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
